Galveston and on to Livingston...

We had an amazing test of our new RV on Thursday night and early Friday as the Galveston area experienced winds of 45 mph with gusts over 60 mph! Needless to say we didn't get a lot of sleep with our little trailer rocking and rolling but it did seem to fare pretty well, even though our nerves didn't so great.

Friday the wind finally dropped off and by early afternoon it was a beautiful day, but chilly. Muffin and I took good advantage of that to catch up on the sleep we lost in the windy night!

We have been impressed with the recovery of the area from hurricane Ike, but some things may never be the same. The state park lost several hundred feet of the beach, dunes, and even into the campground. Where there were once three rows of RV sites, today there are only one row per section. We stayed on the by side where the shower house was not yet completely finished from that storm, but it was a pleasant place to spend a few days.

This morning we slept in and then hooked up and headed north, arriving at Rainbow's End, the Escapee HQ just after noon. We are not sure how long we will stay, but plan to be here several days, then start the treck back toward our home-base.

Pam makes new friends too.............

We are now in Galveston and spent yesterday morning down on the "strand." While we were there, Pam managed to make some new friends too!

Making new friends........

Today was a successful day for Muffie! Evern since we got here she has been attempting to make friends with a yearling deer that comes to the house looking for a handout.

The town has quite a large deer population and the seem to depend mostly upon feed put out by folks who live here. There seem to be deer most everywhere and if you stop your car to look at them, they approach seeking food. They will eat from your hand and are quite bold, but most are shy of dogs.

This particular young deer seems to have been orphaned, or perhaps abandoned as it still has faint spots showing and is just starting to get little buttons for antlers. He seems to always be by himself, but has a route from one spot to the next to look for food. When he don't find any, he tends to eat the shrubery and potted plants around the homes.

Port Mansfield

We arriced at the home of friends in Port Mansfield, TX yesterday afternoon. It was very windy with a little bit of rain in the night and today we have a cold front. It is only 71° out this afternoon, but clear and sunny.

Thus far our trip has gone well and the new RV is just as we had hoped that it would be. We have not had quite as good a fuel mileage as I had hoped, but much better than the old motorhome as we are getting about 11 mpg.

It has been great renewing old friendships as we have not seen the Holland's in several years.
